Rapeseed is an alternative source of plant-based wax.
It is widely grown throughout the UK and Europe and just like soy, it is renewable and sustainable without the need for genetic modification.
Little is wasted from rapeseed production. The oil is increasingly pressed for human consumption and for biodiesel as well as producing wax.
What remains can be used for animal feeds and ploughed back into the land as an excellent fertilizer. It also makes great fire logs!
Before being harvested, the flowers of course provide large quantities of nectar for honey bees.
